Care for the Children and the Elderly Remains a Priority at The Mission.

The census for the boys and girls residing at the hostel is down; however, many children are being served by GSM in a new way. Many of the “orphans” residing at the GSM hostel aren’t orphans in the sense that their parents are deceased, but rather that their parents are unable/unfit to care for them. To that end, Brother Henry has made great strides in trying to meet the needs of the children in their home environment with their parent or guardian. Food, clothing, healthcare, and education support continue to be provided, regardless of where the child resides. In addition, secondary education funding is made available for those students who wish to further their education in nursing, engineering, transportation or technology. Typically, this training costs between $300-400 a year. Twenty senior citizens live on site, with countless elderly and homeless from the surrounding area cared for daily. People come every day, are fed a meal and take a meal home, some are provided funds for medicine and other needs.
